Description
Visiting Assistant Professor-Instructional Faculty of Exercise Science (Academic Year 2024-25) Responsibilities : Primary responsibilities of this 9-month appointment include teaching courses in the undergraduate Exercise Science (ESC) program and/or Master of Science in Sport Physiology & Performance Coaching (SPPC) program and service to the department. Opportunities exist to apply for permanent position. Teaching may include:
- Introduction to Exercise Science (ESC)
- Exercise physiology labs and/or lecture (ESC)
- Advanced Strength & Conditioning (SPPC)
- Current Topics in Strength & Conditioning (SPPC)
- Coaching Theory & Application (SPPC)
- Strength & Conditioning Practicum (SPPC)

Qualifications: A master's or terminal degree in Exercise Physiology or closely related field is required. Evidence of successful teaching is required. NSCA-CSCS/applied experience is preferred.
Rank and Salary : Commensurate with qualifications.
The Department: The Department of Human Movement Sciences houses both undergraduate and master's level exercise science programs. The BS in Exercise Science (ESC) program (~420 students) aligns with ACSM knowledge, skills, and abilities and has achieved the NSCA Education Recognition Program (ERP) seal of approval. The Master of Science in Exercise Physiology (MEXP) program is an applied clinical emphasis leading to CEP certification. The Master of Science in Sport Physiology & Performance Coaching (SPPC) program is a sports performance emphasis preparing graduates to be strength and conditioning professionals. The ESC program is currently seeking CAAHEP/CoAES accreditation and future NSCA/CASCE accreditation. The MEXP program is seeking CAAHEP/CoAES accreditation. The exercise science programs are also closely affiliated with multiple programs across the collaborative College of Health Sciences.
The MEXP program is housed at the Carroll University Center for Graduate Studies, a 55,000 sq. ft. interdisciplinary graduate teaching and research facility. Undergraduates and SPPC programs are located on the main campus, with recently built laboratory spaces (~5,000 sq. ft). All labs are well equipped with current technology for teaching and research activities. Equipment includes portable and laboratory-based gas analysis systems, ECG and stress testing systems, motion analysis and force plate systems, transcranial doppler, diagnostic ultrasound and EMG measurement technology.
Operated by program faculty and students, the Department houses the Carroll University Rehabilitative Exercise (CURE) Program and the Carroll University Sports Performance Institute (CUSPI). The CURE program screens, assesses, and prescribes individualized exercise interventions for medically compromised or at-risk populations in the greater Waukesha area. The CUSPI is dedicated to enhancing sport performance and the advancement of sport science through service, education, and research. Faculty and SPPC students test and monitor Carroll athletes, educate sport scientists and coaches, and complete applied and translational research projects.
The College : The College of Health Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate programs through seven departments- Athletic Training, Human Movement Sciences, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Physical Therapy and Public Health, accounting for ~60% of the University enrollment. The mission of the College of Health Science is to educate students to be innovative professionals who collaborate to serve the health needs of their communities. College foci include interprofessional education and practice, an integrated approach to health, innovative learning and healthcare technologies, community partnerships and service to medically underserved populations. The new Carroll University Community Health Services building was recently purchased and renovated to support these activities. The College supports the interdisciplinary nature of health science education and has received federal and private foundation grant awards to support these as well as program specific initiatives. The college has a strong staff of academic administrative and support staff personnel.
