Position Highlights

The Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) Department at the University of Arizona is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate II.

The purpose of this position is to aid in the management of an experimental research program in the area of accelerated fluid interfaces including Richtmyer-Meshkov and Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities. This requires the candidate to carry out their own research as well as supervise and assist undergraduate and graduate students in completing their assigned research projects. The candidate is also expected to help with the preparation of reports, presentations and manuscripts for publication.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist undergraduate students along with M.S. and Ph.D. graduate students on their assigned projects including providing help with solving technical problems.
  • Perform numerical and analytical modeling on the Richtmyer-Meshkov and Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities. 
  • Prepare research reports and manuscripts for publication and assist in the writing of research proposals. 
  • Present research results at professional conferences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering or a related field of study.
  • Selected applicant must have PhD conferred upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using shock tubes for the study of accelerated fluid interfaces.
  • Experience implementing shock tube diagnostic techniques including planar Mie scattering and particle image velocimetry of high-speed gas flows.
  • Experience with the numerical simulation of multi-fluid shock accelerated flows.
