Search crime scenes, interview persons, secure and collaborate testimony, secure and preserve evidence, serve warrants and subpoenas, make arrests and perform all steps required in the investigation of offenses and crimes and the protection of life and property. Maintain strict confidentiality. Be impartial and sensitive to complex situations and handle them effectively. Operate and maintain firearms and equipment safe and effectively. Must have accurate record keeping skills; communication skills(written, verbal and interpersonal); must have working knowledge of safe operation and care of firearms; photography, fingerprinting, obtaining latent prints, evidenced collections and interview/interrogation techniques; and experience in suspect apprehension and self-protection. Must have thorough knowledge of Tribal and Federal Laws and jurisdictional court procedures. On call and available to respond to reported crimes, prepare affidavits for and to secure and execute search and arrest warrants in both Tribal and Federal Courts and testify effectively in both jurisdictions. Assist the Federal Bureau of Investigations on major crimes and work closely with the United States Attorney’s office.
High school diploma or equivalent; Associates degree in law enforcement or related field, a combination of education and at least 5-years law enforcement experience can be substituted for Associates degree. Basic Police Certification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training; must meet requirements to receive Federal Law Enforcement commission through the Bureau of Indian Affairs; 3-year experience in criminal investigations. No felonies of record and no misdemeanors within three years of application; No convictions that would disqualify certification through the Oregon DPSST . A valid Oregon driver’s license required in addition to, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a U.S. Government driver’s license. Must be certified in the use of and carry of firearms. Will be required to submit to and pass a physical examination, per-employment background checks and drug screening.
