Responsibilities:

This role is onsite (not a remote internship) in Colorado and housing is not provided. As such, candidates local to the state or who list they have housing available in Colorado will be considered first.

We are seeking a motivated GIS Analyst Intern to assist with geographic data collection, analysis, and visualization. This internship offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge GIS tools, technologies, and methodologies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and has a strong interest in geospatial data.

Each intern will focus on completing a project designed to provide hands on, career/major relevant project experience that will have an immediate and lasting impact on a real time business need. Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to:

Essential Duties:

  • Collect, process, and analyze geospatial data using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Create and maintain geodatabases, shapefiles, and other GIS-related datasets.
  • Assist in creating maps, charts, and other visualizations for projects and reports.
  • Support spatial analysis and geoprocessing tasks for ongoing projects.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Perform quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) on GIS data.
  • Document workflows, metadata, and project progress.
  • Take ownership of your project from start to finish, culminating in a presentation to our executive team on your experiences and accomplishments.
  • Share your ideas for innovation, process improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Junior, Senior or Master’s student with a major in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of geospatial concepts and mapping principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem solving and adaptability skills
  • Passion for learning and a strong interest in supporting Intrado’s mission.

Preferred:

  • Experience with programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL) for GIS applications.
  • Knowledge of spatial analysis techniques and geospatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoJSON).
  • Familiarity with web-based mapping platforms like ArcGIS Online, Leaflet, or Mapbox.
