FY25-Health Information Technology Instructor

2 Full-Time, Tenure-Track, C-Basis (10 Month)

East Los Angeles College (ELAC) announce an opening for a 2 full-time, tenure-track, C-Basis (10 Month) Health Information Technology Instructors, beginning Fall 2024. Interested individuals who possess the required training and experience are invited to apply.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : (Included but are not limited to)

  • Teach lecture and laboratory courses in Health Information Technology.

  • Maintain professional and ethical academic standards fostering a collegial atmosphere.

  • Adhere to CAHIIM standards by submitting CEU documents required for accreditation.

  • Assist in identifying and establishing student clinical teaching facilities.

  • Advise students enrolled in the Health Information Technology Program.

  • Maintain required office hours and be available for student consultation outside of posted office hours.

  • Participate in course development and revisions, including student learning activities, and technology course enhancements.

  • Meet obligations with regard to Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and related assessment cycles.

  • Assist in developing instructional strategies to reach student with diverse learning styles.

  • Participate in program activities including, but not limited to, program review, departmental/program meetings, curriculum development, advisory committee meetings, recruitment, campus activities, college and professional development work.

  • Serves as the Student Learning Outcomes Coordinator for the Allied Health Department.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Degree and field experience required:

  • Associate degree with 6 years of related experience OR

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of related experience.

  • Sensitivity and understanding of the socio-economic, cultural and ethnic diversity within the community college student population; including teaching under-represented students and students with physical and/or learning disabilities, as these factors relate to differences in learning styles.

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification.

    The verification of experience letter(s) must meet all of the criteria listed below:
    1. Must be on official letterhead of the employing entity
    2. Job Title
    3. The professional experience must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment. Must provide a list of duties and activities performed
    4. Must provide exact dates of employment (start and end dates)
    5. Must state whether worked full or part-time
    a. If part-time, it must state the number of hours worked (per week or month, as appropriate)
    1. Must be signed ('wet ink' signature) of a verifiable authorized entity representative, with contact information included in case additional clarification or contact is necessary
    2. Letters of recommendation will not be accepted
    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT

    A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment.

    Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status or have an approved exemption in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

    DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

    A . Degree/Credentials relevant to class assignment :

  • Master's Degree, i.e., in Health Information Management or related discipline;

  • RHIA-Registered Health Information Administrator OR

  • RHIT-Registered Health Information Technician;

    B. Teaching experience and related skills:

  • One year of teaching experience in the Health Information discipline in a CAHIIM accredited program.

  • Recent professional experience in Health Information Management.

  • Demonstrated professional membership in AHIMA, national association and the state component association.

  • Knowledge of teaching techniques and experience in developing training materials based on best practices, research, and current adult learning theories.

  • Knowledge of current issues in the health information management profession, i.e. HIPAA, Electronic Health Records, Legal Issues, coding (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT-4), and management.

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, multimedia presentation, business and medical/health information management software (i.e. 3M encoder, EPIC, Cerner, AHIMA Virtual Lab).

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    EVALUATION PROCEDURE

    1. A college selection committee will review all completed and approved applications received. The committee screening will involve and evaluation of the candidate's qualifications in the areas of training, experience, and personal fitness as determined from the application package and recommendations from referents.

    2. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview following the committee screening.

    3. Based upon the committee recommendation, finalists will interview with the president and vice president, who will make the final selection.

    SALARY

    Salary and terms of employment are competitive. Salary range is $72,990 to $135,620 for the 10-month academic year and is based on academic preparation and employment experience. The doctoral differential is $4610 per academic year. Excellent district paid fringe benefits for employees and their dependents including: health, dental, vision, and group term life insurance.
