Foreign Language Speaking Role Player

OTA is seeking dedicated and skilled Foreign Language Speaking (FLS) Role Players to support realistic and immersive military training scenarios near Barstow, CA. Role Players will enhance training by providing cultural, linguistic, and human terrain elements critical to replicating real-world operational environments. This role directly contributes to the development of leadership skills, human intelligence operations, and care/treatment of non-English-speaking individuals in simulated conflict zones.

Position Contingent Upon Contract Award

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as cultural and linguistic role players in Southwest Asia, the Caucasus region, Eastern Europe, Republic of Korea, and Southeast Asia
  • Translate and interpret scenario elements in Specified Contract Required Languages (SCRLs) including Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Russian, Korean, and Mandarin, ensuring accurate representation of cultural and operational contexts
  • Portray culturally and regionally accurate roles, including detainees, civilians, and combatants, to enhance the training realism for Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs)
  • Assist in developing training materials, offering language and cultural guidance, and providing "survival" language training as required
  • Translate technical and military terminology between SCRL and English without loss of meaning or context
  • Collaborate with exercise participants to simulate contemporary culture, customs, and courtesies of the operational area
  • Support logistical movement and operational activities as directed by leadership, adhering to safety and transportation protocols
Required Qualifications
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S. (original documentation required 30 days prior to each rotation)
  • Background checks, including criminal activity, credit, and immigration documentation
  • Completion of required security forms (e.g., SF 85P, OF 306, FBI fingerprint check)
  • Fluent in one or more of the SCRLs (Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Russian, Korean, Mandarin).
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Skilled in translating and interpreting oral and written materials, including military and technical terminology
  • Native or recently resided in regions represented in training (Southwest Asia, Caucasus, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia)
  • Deep understanding of the culture, customs, and courtesies of the specific operational area
  • Prior experience in role-playing, linguistics, or cultural trainin g
  • Knowledge of military operations and procedures 
  • Ability to portray a culturally authentic appearance for the SCRL’s region of origin, if requested
  • Willingness to travel to the NTC and reside in Augmentee Barracks for the duration of training rotations.
  • Strong adaptability and ability to perform under time-sensitive and high-pressure scenarios
Work Environment
  • Work primarily conducted near Barstow, CA with occasional assignments in nearby remote locations
  • The environment may expose individuals to extreme climates including heat, cold, rain, wind, and snow
  • Physically demanding conditions include walking up to 3 miles per day over rocky or sandy terrain and standing for up to 8 hours per day
  • Operate independently with self-sustained equipment and appropriate clothing for the 16-day training rotation
  • Live in Augmentee Barracks during the training rotation
  • Operate in environments that may include training pyrotechnics (e.g., blanks, smoke, explosions) within a 25-meter proximity
  • Comply with all conduct regulations as outlined in the base contract
  • Transportation provided to remote training locations
  • Access to on-site dining facilities and commercial food establishments (PX Food Court, Burger King, etc.)
  • Contractor-provided attire for role-playing scenarios
  • Limited electrical power and self-sustaining requirements (e.g., personal comfort items, clothing, and food) during training rotations
  • Must be available for up to 12-day rotations, with 60 personnel working an additional 4 days as required
